About the blog:
"Writers are rarely likable." -- Joan Didion
Rarely Likable is a blog about reading and readers, writing and writers. And, inevitably, long-windedness and pop culture. It is updated fairly frequently.
There is no second "e" in my "likable".
Got something you'd like me to read and discuss here? Go ahead and send it to the email address above, or to PO Box 1989, New Milford, CT 06776.
REVIEW DISCLOSURE STATEMENT, PER UNITED STATES FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION GUIDELINES
Although I buy nearly all of the books I discuss on this blog, please assume I receive them gratis.
You should also be aware that while I sometimes give away books after I discuss them on Rarely Likable, I do not ALWAYS do so. Although I am occasionally tempted, I never destroy them.
If you have questions about this statement, or about a particular book (either before or after the 12/1/09 guidelines take effect), please feel free to contact me for details.
And yes, I think the Internet-only FTC guidelines are hypocritical.
About the owner:
Hi, I'm Erin Fitzgerald. I'm also gnomeloaf. You can call me either, since this is the Internet. I live in Connecticut with my husband and my eight year old daughter, but I'm originally from Rochester, NY.
I write flash fiction, short stories, novellas, novels, and the VERY occasional poem. I got my MFA in fiction from Sarah Lawrence College in 1995. Since then, I've mostly received paychecks from writing in the fields of education and corporate relocation. (They're more similar than you might think!) I am editor of The Northville Review.
If you have read this far, feel free to add me as a friend on Facebook. I can also be found at Fictionaut.
Topics that cause me to become instantly animated include suburbia in the creative arts, bastard and mashup pop music, Irish socialist and revolutionary James Connolly, advice columns, religious fringes, dystopias, apocalypses, gossip, secrets, hidden agendas and alterior motives.
